cocktails and easter eggs
Jul 17, 2008 Continuing my obsession with those charming bohemiens who make elderflower liquor: I'm working on the elderflower sour. Gin, St Germain, and a mint-lemon simple syrup I made last night. Not sure if this is going rock my tastebuds or taste like hummingbird food. The syrup recipe called for 4 springs of mint, but I tossed in about 40 from the garden. And what kind of dolt have I been zesting with anything other than this miracle microplaner? It made dreamy, fluffy piles of zest in about 30 seconds flat. I can't believe what a rank amateur I've been.
And an update on the hair experiment. After ditching the gravy thickener shampoo, the hair is sqeaky clean. The bathroom windowsill looks like a small laboratory and the smell of my hair conjures up trying to balance eggs on those flimsy metal egg holders over teacups of dye, but it's clean. Done deal.
And to be totally honest, I sort of like the smell. In a where-the-wax-crayon? kinda way.

ah, memories of Paas. But what is 'where-the-wax-crayon?' Je suis confused.
you know, that "magic" wax crayon they had in those kits. you could write a secret message or doodle something and it would show up when you dyed the egg. that was always the most popular item at our kitchen table setup.
