handmade nation
Mar 12, 2009 Hello, my people. You felt it walking into the screening of Handmade Nation last night. You’ve probably heard a lot about this movie: how it captures the rise of the indie craft movement, where traditional craft disciplines are being bent and stretched and made into something new in the hands of modern crafters.
It was great, and you should find it and go see it. And it was equally great to be in the company of hundreds of people who believed in this. Who were there to see some small reflection of ourselves, in what we make or support or admire.
Watching the incredible Nikki McClure slice into a piece of black paper looked as fluid as drawing. And her take on working with a medium that involves a knife, and actions that can’t be un-done: “I either fix them or I live with them. The mistakes drive you to try another time.”
Amen, sister.
