fun with a long exposure

This is what my husband and I get up to with a glass of wine and that borrowed deck, after we watched the sun slink down. Once the camera clicked, we pulled it around hurky-jerky to make different kinds of trails. I think one of these images blown up super-big would be pretty nifty.

In other news, you guys make me the best kind of happy with all your comments about the dress. I really wasn’t fishing. And I love that my mother wrote in telling me that I needed to smile.

I answered some burning questions in original posts, but here’s a summary:

Tomatoes: Yes, we did leave the oven on all night. We shoved the tomatoes in around midnight and turned the oven off around 7 am.

Teepee: My sister hung the teepee from branches with bark on, and she thinks the rough bark gave the fabric panels enough traction so they wouldn’t slip. More ideas for working with the bamboo poles in that post.

Dress: I have no idea what that rad turquoise plant is at my feet in the photo. I believe I have seen it before in Dr. Seuss books?

And did I forgot to tell you that this was the first dress I’ve ever finished? So for those of you who wrote that you wanted to make clothes but were intimidated, I hear you. But find a pattern and get snipping. Wearing it makes me feel like I can legitimately wink at people as I swish down the street because I have a secret.

Just found your blog. It's great and now I want to try to roast tomatoes. I guess one could make them during the day, just the same. I think I would be afraid to leave something in the oven all night. Big fear of house fires!

I oven dry my cherry tomatoes with just a sprinkling of salt, sugar and thyme and then pop into a hot oven (400 deg), turn the oven off and leave all night, even all day the next day. I think this would only work for little tomatoes though. I got this idea from Nigella's Fast Food book - her moonblush tomatoes. For those worried about leaving the oven on, this might be worth a try.

Love the photos Kelly. Looks like a big carnival! I did a post (a heat stroke of genius 7/30) about a gardener in Austin who sun dries tomatoes on a cookie sheet wedged on the dash of her pickup truck! So funny. I loved reading about the different ways you used the tomatoes. I continue to enjoy your blog and am happy for all your dress comments!

I have a swish dress too and you're right, it does make you want to wink at people. *grins* Oh, and I can completely appreciate the humor in what hijinks a couple can get into with a glass of wine. I get the giggles just thinking about some of the shenanigans.
