nature's lanterns
Aug 6, 2009
God bless the fairy godmother of watering – otherwise known as a drip irrigation system. It means we can return home to a promising bounty of tomatillo lanterns dangling in the backyard. And clusters of still-green tomatoes.

These sturdy, hairy tomato plant vines are my favorite smell in the world. Sometimes I wish Jo Malone or one of those artificial flavoring factories in New Jersey could figure out how to put that spicy-pungent-green smell in a bottle. But then there would be no reason to fondle all the tomato plants I come across. So back off, New Jersey.

someone did put it in a bottle and they also had one for dirt and grass! I think my aunt bought me the set and I thought it was so weird. pretty sure I was a college student at the time and thought gardening was the most ridiculous thing ever! my, my, how things change.
OOO, i haven't grown tomatillos in years! They make the MOST delicious salsa verde, thanks for sharing!

i've had it as both the cologne and the room spray, and i think it smells JUST like the real thing! one of my favorite scents of all time too ;n)
Cal, could it be true? Really? That's amazing -- thanks for passing along! And I love their condensed history of the fruit. I'm still scared to order it, but you're really tempting me here!
Wow, how amazing. Truly beautiful photos. thanks for sharing
I've always thought a young bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc releases that sticky, oily tomato vine aroma upon opening....I highly recommend if you're into that scent as much as I am!
Netrez, I'll be sniffing next time!
