kurtwood farms
Oct 27, 2010 And one more in this post-summer category: an amazing place called Kurtwood Farms, on Vashon Island outside of Seattle. My great friend Sarah (and yours – remember those roasted strawberry creamsicles? and mussels?) has been plotting to get me there for a couple years, and it finally happened this summer.
Kurt Timmermeister moved from Seattle to Vashon about twenty years ago, to a plot of land with overgrown blackberry brambles and rusted-out cars. Needless to say, he has changed a lot. In one outbuilding, Kurt created a full-fledged cheese-making business. And in another long building, Kurt hosts Sunday suppers.
After strolling around the raised beds with a glass of wine, everyone sits at a long table and your many, many course meal is prepared feet from where you sit.

Sarah’s husband Derek told me not to be shy with the homemade butter, just before he took enough to create his own personal butter sculpture on his side plate.

Sadly, these Sunday suppers are on hiatus while Kurt focuses on his cheese. But holy hell, it was an amazing summer evening. I wish we could all be there together, eating butter and tomato jam and pork ragu and bay-leaf infused ice cream, and gazing out the window as dusk falls.

Sigh. This is an America that we people overseas don't see much of. I wish there was more of this, and less of the beauty pageants, murders, celebrities and politics. : )
yumalicious - ummm, excuse me, where was our invitation??!! As always, love reading your posts....as does Colin! We're anxiously awaiting when our day will come and we can share in your lovely adventures ;)
This place looks absolutely stunning! I would love to take a trip there.... especially once the dinners are reinstated!
