summer list: your turn
Jul 1, 2010 Here are some additions to the Summer List* from like-minded, summer-loving readers:
Terri wants to lay in a sandbox with her kids and look at the stars with her husband.
Sarah want to ride her bike along the river and have a picnic with friends.
Lynda wants to take a convertible ride to get some ice cream.
Charlotte want to set up the hammock in the garden.
Simone wants to go on a waterslide, play bocce ball and go night swimming (ooh, yes please!).
And Bethany has already crossed off a couple items on her list: hanging a swing in the backyard and fishing with her dad.
What's on your list? Feel free to share in the comments below. As for me, this weekend I hope to catch a small town parade, read a book outside, and drive down country roads with all the windows down. Have a wonderful, lazy, star-spangled weekend.
*By the way, this whole idea of compiling and checking off a Summer List is inspired by Maggie and her Mighty Life List. Check it out.

Oh! There are so many things I want to do this summer! But topping my list? I think I'd have to go with;
* drinking tea under the stars in my backyard, cuddled with my honey and listening to the frogs croaking
* water balloon fight with the niece
* baking way too many treats... then inviting the niece and her friends over so they can eat them for me!
* play date with the puppy and the river
But number one on my list right now? Setting up a trampoline, and just bouncing
go camping with my hubs: build a gigantic fire, drink wine directly out of the bottle, cook just caught fist over the open flame.
Go on a road trip, buy our nephew his first bike, and teach him how to ride, give our veggie garden surplus in nice baskets to our neighbors and family, walk to the playground near our house late at night and swing under the stars :) yoga in the park, make pizzas on the grill, it's going to be a great summer!
haha, oops, I meat fresh caught *fish*
*meant* I give up!
Corn on the grill, swim in the ocean, hike in the mountains, popsicles made with fruit, 4th of July parade, fireworks, wiggle toes in the grass, city lights, late night walks, sleeping outdoors, showering outdoors, bbq, lemonade, pretty new sandals, painted toe nails, reading novels, cool showers, shorts, lightweight cotton dresses & skirts, evenings spent outdoors, summer quilts, apricots, peaches and nectarines.
Dance all night long at a wedding, spend an evening playing games with my family at the cabin, jump in the (freezing cold) ocean, go for a canoe ride, have a backyard campfire, build a tree house, do a puzzle with my cousins, learn how to tile, tile the bathroom, take my daughter to Folk Fest, go to Times Square, have a weiny roast at the beach...
oh - one more for my list - make a teepee for my boy inspired by your sister's fabulous one you wrote about last summer....you gals are sooooo talented!
Sit in the deck chair with my feet in the blow up pool while the kids splash in it. Running in the yard with the new puppy and the kids in tow. Pick vegetables from the first year garden in the new house. Get some furniture refinished to furnish the new house. Take naps with the kids!
We have a summer to-do list too. This year it includes trying all the different flavors of snowcones, learning to make the perfect sangria, trying out a recipe for tomato pie and to enjoy as many root beer floats as possible. Add in the occasional roadtrip and BBQ with friends and we will have the perfect summer.
Wow, I just found your blog and I absolutely love this idea! Here are a few more to add to the list:
Teach my kids to play "Kick the Can" and "Ghost in the Graveyard" with the neighbors at the park.
Listen to plenty of Patsy Cline Radio on Pandora. (This is inspired by a post from Anna Maria Horner last summer.) It totally reminds me of summers with my grandparents, listening to AM Country radio.
We're also doing "Alphabet Summer," as a way to work in a variety of simple little adventures: http://lettersoupblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/alphabet-summer.html
Now, I'm off to check out that teepee mentioned in the comment above!
I just bought too amazing summer "must-haves"
william and sonoma popsicle maker and this portable picnic table
so have popsicle picnics on the bayou:)
I want to sit on the back deck of my childhood home with my mother at dusk and listen to the cricket chorus sing away in the forest... then in August, pick buckets of berries in Maine and make a grand mess of my kitchen baking pies!
Yup, absolutely loving this whole series. A few items from my summer list:
- sleep under the stars, hopefully above treeline
- swim in a cold mountain lake, hopefully one i find by accident
- eat sun-warm berries straight off the plant
- eat breakfast on the porch. (and lunch and dinner.)
- listen to live music sitting on a blanket in the grass
