summer road trip: oysterville
Jul 19, 2010 Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats the summer road trip. This past weekend we met friends in a sweet little town on the Washington coast. We played bocce, we played euchre, we ate Dungeness crab, we barbequed oysters. We read and took walks along the marshes. We rode a carousel and flew a kite. We ate ice cream cones. Then we came home to sit around the outdoor fire in wooden Adirondack chairs that looked past the garden, over the weathered wood fence, and out to the quiet blue bay.

That sounds wonderful!!! Can you tell me exactly where you stayed, maybe post a link? I'd love to check it out, my girlfriends and I have been talking about doing a northwest coastal road trip :) Thanks!!
I love bbq'd oysters! I always see people playing bocce ball on the beach and think it is such a great idea. Of course I always forget our set when I head to the beach. Sounds like a great weekend!
I get to go to the Island County and other coastal areas of Washington fairly often--it's lovely! I'm dying for a road trip somewhere though. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend trip!
Hi Jamie, I'm happy to share -- this is Oysterville, a really beautiful little spot on the Long Beach Peninsula:

The rest of the peninsula was a little down at the heels, which has its own charms. But this town was like a movie set. Beautiful, weathered old houses and grass lanes in between, with gorgeous meadows that end at the bay. Well worth a visit, I think, and even better if you can stay there. We rented a house that was a perfect spot for our little crew:

Enjoy your road trip!

I love Oysterville and Willapa Bay. It's one of Washington's oldest cities. For a fun read, check out: Oysterville: Roads to Grandpa's Village.
I used to visit to enjoy a couple meals at The Ark and area's quiet charm. It's a quick hop to Seaview, Illwaco, and Astoria, just in case your road trip needs a few more diversions.
Tom: There was a copy of that book in the house we stayed in! Sadly, The Ark is now closed. It looked like a great spot and the owners of the house we rented were fondly remembering meals there as well. Next time, I'll try and swing through those towns -- thanks!
