it's this time of year here
Feb 17, 2011
I like to call it "blossom season." Because spring feels a little too cruel, seeing as friends and family elsewhere are still piled under banks of snow.
This time of year, all the cherry and plum trees burst into bloom overnight. One day, the branches are bare, and the next, they’ve popped open and the air smells like perfume and earth at the same time.

After a rain storm, dropped petals pile up in drifts on the city’s streets and secret stairways. Sort of like nature threw a party and it's the morning after, with spent confetti everywhere.
Our pooch likes to wear some on her nose.

so jealous; the weather reports anticipate a warm day over here in western PA, though.
Oh, Virginia, how I miss you.
UGH! I just had a dream the other night that it was springtime in CO, only to wake up to remember that we still have about 2 months left of solid winter, and there is always at least one random snow storm in May! I love the petal that's hitching a ride on your dogs nose, adorable!
What beautiful pictures! I especially love the one of your dog and all the confetti petals. It's a balmy 40˚ in Rochester, NY and it even tastes like spring, but we're expecting another winter crack down this weekend.
Beautiful!
It is starting to bloom over in England as well - my magnolia bush is taking on a life if its own! - and each time I talk to the folks in Vermont, there is snow, snow and more snow!
This weekend we saw snowdrops and crocus and today saw the first blossoms on a cherry tree and then it started to snow on the way home!
Gorgeous pictures!
